Frequently Asked Questions I have not done any yoga before. Are your classes suitable for me?
Yes, my classes are suitable for complete beginners and there are modifications of all the poses that make them more accessible for students who are starting yoga. I offer taster classes, so you are welcome to come along and try one, and see how it suits you.
What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing is best so that you can stretch easily and are not constrained by anything tight. It is best to bring a jumper or sweatshirt to put on during the relaxation as you can cool down quickly after the active 'asana' work.
Do I need to bring a mat?
You are welcome to bring your mat if you have one, but I do provide clean, new mats at all my classes. Do, however, bring a blanket for the relaxation, particularly in the winter.
What if I have an injury or health condition?
It is advisable to check with your GP as to whether yoga is suitable for you, if this is the case. Please also do let me know before the class so that I can suggest modifications of poses, or alternatives, for you.
Are meditation and pranayama suitable for beginners?
I believe very much in the benefits of both breathing and meditation, so I do try to introduce these early on to beginners. If you find it uncomfortable to sit cross-legged for very long, it is fine to sit on a chair to do these practices.
Do you give guidance on self-practice at home?
Yes, I offer one-to-one sessions by arrangement and can give you a specific practice to suit your particular needs. The cost of this is £25 for one hour and a session can be booked by emailing or phoning me. Contact details are on the Home Page.
Om santih santih santih. Peace.
